Svaki recept ima svoju priču ali ovaj nosi dve.
Bile su to rane godine mog kulinarskog zaleta kada sam ovaj recept prvi put pripremila. Usledile su pohvale i onda pitanje koje me je raznežilo “Daj mi onaj recept, znaš onaj od tvoje svekrve!” rekla je mama. A samo nekoliko dana kasnije, svekrva mi je s osmehom zatražila “Napravi mi one tvoje gužvarice, znaš, onaj recept od tvoje majke.”

Ovaj recept je nežno prošao kroz ruke tri žene moje majke, moje svekrve i mene. Svaka ga je volela, svaka ga je pripisivala onoj drugoj. Tako je nastao recept koji je “od nekoga dragog” a zapravo, postao je moj, naš. A sada i vaš.
Noćne gužvarice su u July 2012. godine osvojile glavnu nagradu magazina My Favourite Recipes, a ljubav prema njima širila se i na Coolinariki. Danas ih vraćam ovde na Smiki’s Corner sa zahvalnošću, sećanjem i mirisom domaćeg tjesta koji preko noći naraste u nešto posebno.

Tjesto preko noći — Odmor u frižideru daje posebnu mekoću i bogatiji ukus, zato ne preskači ovaj korak ako možeš.
Temperatura mleka — Mleko treba biti mlako, ne vruće da ne ubije germu ali da mu pruži dobar start.
Količina fila — Ne preteruj sa filom, jer tjesto treba lepo da se uhvati i oblikuje bez pucanja.
Oblikovanje gužvarica — Nije važno da li su savršeno jednake jer šarm ovog peciva je u njegovoj domaćoj, neformalnoj formi.
Zamrzavanje — Pečene gužvarice možeš zamrznuti a kad poželiš, podgrejati u rerni biće kao sveže pečene!
Alternativni filovi — Probaj i druge varijante sa džemom ili orasima za drugačiju verziju.
Pečenje — Rerna treba biti dobro zagrejana a gužvarice poređane s dovoljno razmaka jedna od druge da bi lepo narasle i porumenele.
Night Poppy Roulades - A Recipe That Connects Generations
Every recipe has its story, but this one carries two.
I was just beginning to find my rhythm in the kitchen when I first made this dish. The scent filled the house and warm compliments quickly followed. Then came a moment I’ll never forget. One day my mom called me and said with a smile, “Give me that recipe, you know, the one from your mother-in-law!”
Just a few days later, it was my mother-in-law’s turn. She tasted them, beamed, and said, “Can you make me those roulades again you know the ones from your mom’s recipe.”
That’s the beauty of this recipe it became a family favorite from both sides, without anyone realizing, it had already crossed generations. A true bridge between kitchens, hearts and traditions.
Night Poppy Roulades - An Award-Winning Recipe
This recipe gently passed through the hands of three women; my mother’s, my mother-in-law’s and mine. Each one loved it, each one claimed it came from the other. That’s how it became “a recipe from someone dear” and in the end it became mine. And now, yours too!
In July 2012, Night Poppy Roulades won the grand prize in My Favourite Recipes magazine and their charm spread further through the Coolinarika community. Today, I’m bringing them back here on Smiki’s Corner with gratitude, nostalgia and the aroma of homemade dough that rises overnight into something truly special.
Kitchen Tips for Perfect Night Poppy Roulades
Overnight Dough – Letting the dough rest in the fridge or in a cool room overnight gives it a special softness and richer flavor, so try not to skip this step if you can.
Milk Temperature – The milk should be lukewarm, not hot to avoid killing the yeast while still giving it a strong start.
Filling Quantity – Don’t overfill, the dough should be able to wrap and shape nicely without tearing.
Shaping the Roulades – Don’t worry about making them perfectly uniform. The charm of this pastry lies in its homemade, rustic look.
Freezing – Baked roulades can be frozen and later reheated in the oven, they’ll taste just like freshly baked!
Filling Variations – Try different versions with jam or ground walnuts for a sweeter take.
Baking Tips – Preheat your oven well and leave enough space between each roulades so they can rise and turn golden beautifully.
