2 jaja

150 g šećera

200 g brašna, prosijanog

1 m.k praška za pecivo

100 g mljevenih badema

250 g jogurta s okusom limuna

150 g neslanog maslaca

naribana korica 1/2 naranče

Sirup

50 ml vode

* 120 g šećera

naribana korica 1/2 limuna

naribana korica 1/2 naranče i sok cele naranče

5 semenki kardamom, zdrobljenih

Priprema

Sticky Orange & Cardamom Yogurt Cake

If you love cakes that are refreshing, moist, and fragrant all at once, this yogurt cake with orange and cardamom will be a true delight. Inspired by Mediterranean flavors and the warmth of homemade baking, it perfectly blends the brightness of citrus with the subtle spice of cardamom. It’s easy to make, and the result is a soft, aromatic dessert that’s sure to win over both family and guests.

For the Sponge Cake

2 eggs

150 g sugar

200 g flour, sifted

1 tsp baking powder

100 g ground almonds

250 g lemon-flavored yogurt

150 g unsalted butter

Grated zest of 1/2 orange

For the Syrup

50 ml water

120 g sugar*

Grated zest of 1/2 lemon

Grated zest of 1/2 orange and juice of the whole orange

5 crushed cardamom pods

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a round cake pan (20 cm diameter) with baking paper.

2. Put all the sponge ingredients into a mixer and beat for 2–3 minutes until the batter is smooth.*It's best if the butter is at room temperature.

3. Bake in the preheated oven for 35–45 minutes or until the cake starts pulling away from the sides of the pan. Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a serving plate.

4. Meanwhile, place all the syrup ingredients in a small saucepan, heat until the sugar dissolves, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes until it thickens. Let it cool slightly, remove the cardamom, and pour the syrup over the cake. Before pouring, poke the cake a few times with a toothpick so it absorbs the syrup better.

Serving suggestion

Serve with extra lemon yogurt or with custard and enjoy! I also find it goes perfectly with clotted cream or whipped cream.

*Note

YoeWalley’s original recipe used 175 g of sugar for the syrup, which seemed like a lot for under 100 ml of liquid. I reduced it to 120 g and found it to be just right. If you prefer it sweeter, feel free to add more sugar.

Enjoy!
